Sleepscapes - May 2011
This exhibition, ‘Sleepscapes’, has been inspired by memories of childhood at my parent’s cottage and the quilted eiderdowns my sisters and I used to have on our beds as children. Alongside these, garments selected reflect memories across different generations, worn and handed down - mother to daughters.
As before, the making process has proved to be revealing and illuminating, enabling me to reconsider my past and challenge former feelings. Ultimately, the unpredictability of the process of melting plastic has been able to determine the extent to which patterns and thoughts have been captured and/or resisted. On the other hand, the robust nature of selected materials will help these to live on into the future. The recycling process provides me with a vehicle for deconstructing my ideas about the past and hopefully initiating thoughts that are personal to the viewer as they contemplate their own.
